PZJA out of session decision requirementThe difficult decision to postpone the 19th meeting of the Torres Strait Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA), scheduled for 14-15 December 2005, was made by the PZJA Chair, Senator the Hon Ian Macdonald on Friday 9 December 2005, following the resignation of the Hon Gordon Nuttall MP from the Queensland Cabinet. It was the shared view of the remaining PZJA Members that the meeting should not be convened in the absence of a Queensland Minister. A decision on the 2006 management arrangements for the Tropical Rock Lobster (TRL) Fishery cannot be deferred to next year because important elements of the management arrangements in place in this fishery lapse on 31 December 2005. A decision on this item will be sought by Friday 23 December 2005. In order for the PZJA to consider industry views on this urgent item, an information paper (PDF 28kb) has been made available on the PZJA website. The PZJA agencies will be contacting key stakeholder groups to bring this item to their urgent attention. The representative organisation’s views on this matter are requested by email or fax to all PZJA Members and the PZJA Standing Committee Chair by close of business on Tuesday 20 December 2005. The relevant contact details can be found below. The letters received by the PZJA will also be posted on the PZJA website, so that all stakeholders are aware of the views being taken into account. The balance of the items that were on the PZJA 19 agenda (PDF 21kb) will need to be considered by the PZJA in early 2006. Information papers corresponding to these items will also be posted on the PZJA web site and stakeholder views on these items are invited through the representative organisations, in writing by close of business on Friday 20 January 2006. Should you require any further information on these administrative arrangements, please contact Jonathan Barker of the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry by phone on (02) 6272 4573 or by email at jonathan.barker@daff.gov.au.
