Consultation Paper on resource allocation options in key Torres Strait fisheriesNote: The comment period has now closed. In February 2005, the Torres Strait Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA) appointed a “Specialist Group” to be formed under the Chairmanship of the Australian Government to develop scenarios for the future development and management of the fisheries in the Torres Strait, with particular emphasis on resource allocation between the Traditional Inhabitant and non-Traditional Inhabitant commercial sectors. The findings of the specialist group have been incorporated into a consultation paper (PDF 78kb), to present a range of options for the future development and management of Torres Strait Tropical Rock Lobster (TRL) Fishery and the Torres Strait Finfish (including Reef Line and Spanish Mackerel) Fishery. Stakeholder views are being sought on the options for resource allocation described in the consultation paper. Those views will be collated and considered by the Torres Strait Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA) at its next meeting in July 2005. All interested parties are invited to comment on the listed options and indicate their preferences using the consultation feedback sheet (PDF 25kb). Comments must be returned to Ms Inga Davis, Policy Officer, Torres Strait Fisheries, Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry by 5pm on THRSDAY 30 JUNE 2005. Comments can be provided by faxing the feedback sheet to 02 6272 4875, email at inga.davis@daff.gov.au, or sent via post to: Ms Inga Davis All comments will be collated and provided to the PZJA for their consideration, along with the consultation paper, at the 18th PZJA meeting in July 2005. Please note an errata document (Word 27kb) has been provided correcting an error on page eight of the report. Help with downloading and viewing files
