Torres Strait Fishers (Quotas for Tropical Rock Lobster (Kaiar)) Management Plan Amendment

26 November 2020

The Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA), having considered outcomes of public consultation, have agreed to amend the Torres Strait Fishers (Quotas for Tropical Rock Lobster (Kaiar)) Management Plan 2018 (the TRL Plan).

Importantly, the amendment does not relate to, or change, any of the fishing rules for the TRL Fishery.

The purpose of the Plan amendment is to provide an extended timeframe for reviewing the allocation of quota units to the Traditional Inhabitant sector. The Plan amendment also extends the period for the PZJA to commence the review to within four years.

In early September 2020, all licence holders were invited to comment on the proposed draft amendment. Public consultation ended on 15 October 2020.
